Migrant Workers Replacing Palestinians in Hotels: Hundreds of Veteran Palestinian Employees Expected to Be Laid Off by Year’s End

Hundreds of Palestinian workers employed in hotels across Israel—including in Jerusalem, Herzliya, and the Dead Sea region—are expected to be dismissed in the coming month and replaced by migrant workers. In recent days, MAAN has received notices from workers who, throughout November, were summoned to pre-termination hearings. Some have already attended hearings and received official dismissal letters.

Instead of Showy Arrests, Let Palestinian Workers Return to Construction

The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah, which came into effect on Wednesday, November 27, marks the end of the war in Lebanon. If it holds, a period of reconstruction will begin, bringing a dramatic increase in the need for workers in the construction sector. Meanwhile, tens of thousands of Palestinians are waiting for the government to allow them back into construction sites in Israel. Thousands of contractors are also desperate for skilled labor, reporting that the foreign workers they have managed to recruit are too few and insufficiently trained.

Ban of Palestinian workers creates powder keg in the West Bank

After more than three months during which the checkpoints were closed, and about 200,000 Palestinian workers were suspended from working in Israel, a significant crack has finally opened. In the government meeting of January 14th, a plan was formulated to allow the entry of Palestinian workers aged at least 45 who have undergone a security check and possess entry permits to Israel.
