Elections for Local Authorities: MAAN Supports Democratic Lists organized by “New Contract” – an initiative of the Protest movement

On Tuesday, February 27, municipal elections will take place in Israel. The elections, initially scheduled for the end of October, were postponed due to the war. Only recently has the election campaigns started to heat up. In several major cities such as Jerusalem, Haifa, and Tel Aviv, activists from MAAN participate and support the “New Contract” – an electoral list, which is the political arm of the protest movement.

MAAN representatives in the Labourstart conference in Tbilisi, Georgia (28-30 April)

The conference was held in the background of unprecedented international support to Ukraine in its heroic fight against Putin’s aggression. Key activists from Ukraine’s trade unions appeared at the conference and emphasized the importance of mobilizing the workers’ movement around the world in support of Ukraine and for democracy. There were also featured representatives of trade unions in Belarus and Kazakhstan – countries where there is severe repression of democratic rights and leaders of the trade unions are in prison.

Without democracy, there are no workers' rights, just as a workers' organization cannot exist under dictatorship.

only a victory of the democratic camp will enable a discussion on the Palestinian issue and lead to an alternative solution to occupation and apartheid while ensuring human rights and citizenship for all, Israelis and Palestinians alike. As long as the apartheid regime persists, the democratic camp will not succeed in defeating Israeli extremists. Therefore, we work to involve the Arab and Palestinian society in the protest.
