A brief ruling by the Israeli National Labor Court on April 21, 2015, presided over by Judges Yigal Flitman (Court President), SigalMotolaDavidov and Moshe Twina, established that WAC-MAAN is the representative workers’ union at Zarfati Garage
The conflict between WAC-MAAN and Zarfati Garage goes to the heart of the union’s right to represent Palestinian workers in Mishor Adumim, and to the heart of the rights of Palestinian workers there to organise.
The strike, with its potential for future walkouts, was spurred by the company’s refusal to recognize WAC-MAAN and to open negotiations with it toward a plant-wide collective agreement.
This step results from the firm’s refusal to recognize WAC-MAAN as a representative union, and its refusal to open negotiations over a collective agreement.
When the Zarfati garage became wary of the workers’ committee chairperson, they simply framed him using nationalist claims. They brought in the Civil Administration and the police, then sent him to military court.
