On Monday, June 24, at 11 PM, the final stage of the course took place. 17 new beekeepers received a hive and a new swarm of bees, which they will take to their homes. The unusual hour was chosen as bee hives must be moved only after dark. From now on, the participants will receive close guidance for a whole year from their esteemed teacher, Yossi Oud of “Bees for Peace.” Yossi has already established several women’s groups across the country, and we are proud to be part of this new and wonderful initiative.
Biodynamic beekeeping is a response to the worldwide dangerous phenomenon of bee disappearance. It allows beekeepers to protect the environment and enables the bee swarm to live close to how it lives in nature. It does not use chemicals, sugar, antibiotics, or toxic substances. Honey collection is done in harmony with the bees and not as a step to deprive them of their food.
Wafa Tayara, the course coordinator, is the manager of MAAN’s branch in Baqa al-Gharbiyeh and a board member of Sindyanna. Wafa proudly reports that there is already a waiting list for the next course. Wafa believes that such joint activities contribute to the advancement of society as a whole. “This is our way of giving hope in the difficult days that both Arab and Jewish women have been going through since the traumatic October 7.”
Michelle Anne, who participated in this course, shared her experience with MAAN and her decision to join the course. Read here.
