Workers of the Ta’aman food company at Mishor Adumim in the occupied West Bank have been on strike since Sunday, Dec 5, 2021. On Dec 6, they also held a solidarity meeting at Almog Junction near Jericho with the participation of the MAAN Workers Association that represents them.
On Sunday, March 7, MAAN-Workers Association, signed a collective agreement with the Rajwan Food Production Company (the company’s official name – RS Food Import and Production Ltd.). The trade union has signed two previous agreements in Area C. This third agreement in a company that emloys mainly Palestinian workers is different as it is the first collective agreement signed a company inside Israel that works under the regualations of the Payment Authoruty.

For years, Palestinians toiling in the industrial zones of West Bank settlements have been subject to exploitation and denial of their rights. A collective agreement signed on February 14, 2017 proves that another way is possible. In this precedential step, the Zarfati Garage signed a collective agreement with WAC-MAAN which covers all 75 workers at the plant and compensates the Palestinians among them for the previous period, when their rights had been denied.

WAC MAAN director Assaf Adiv: We are entering a negotiation process with the management, and we are doing this with a positive attitude. We believe we can reach a collective agreement that will secure drivers’ rights and compensate them for past wrongs. Having said that, should it become clear that the management remains unmoved by the drivers’ demands, we will not hesitate to re-establish a workplace dispute and consider strike action.
